Do's and Dont's before closing a loan?

Lenders do update the inquiries right before closing. Do NOT procure any new loans or acquire any new debt. Don't open any credit cards (even if they're a zero balance), don't buy a new car, don't pull out money on your HELOC, etc.. Don't make any major purchases before closing on your home loan. This includes appliances, furniture, cars, etc..

How long does it take to prepare closing documents?

Closing documents are normally prepared one to two weeks in advance of the closing date. If the buyer is obtaining a loan for the purchase, once final loan approval is received from the underwriter most lenders can prepare documents for signing within a week. Ideally, loan approval is no less than two weeks prior to the close of escrow date.
