What documents are needed for NVC?

The NVC has a complete listing in the website of all of the civil documents that are required in order to complete the processing of an immigrant visa application. The civil documents include birth certificate, adoption decree, marriage certificate, marriage termination documents, military records, police certificates, court/prison records, etc.

Can I send the copy of documents to NVC?

IMPORTANT: Do not send your original passport or original civil documents such as birth, and marriage certificates. Instead, submit a photocopy of these documents to NVC. However, you must bring these original documents to your visa interview. This is true no matter what method you use to submit documents to NVC.

How long does it take NVC to review documents?

NVC states it takes 30-60 days to review case file after documents submitted. You can contact the NVC directly as indicated in your letter(s) from them.

Does NVC send all the documents to the embassy?

Once the NVC has received all of the forms and documents, they will review and schedule a visa interview appointment. The NVC then forwards the case file containing the petition, forms and documents submitted by or on behalf of a visa applicant, to the Immigrant Visa Unit of the U.S. Embassy, Tokyo or the U.S. Consulate General, Naha where the applicant will be interviewed.
